Amid the moment, when things don’t make sense, when you are discovering something new on the path to healing, empowerment, there is often extra energy, perhaps it is a mix of anxiety, anger, or something else. Call it what you may; yet, how do you deal with this extra energy?

Comfort can be a mixed bag, as a little goes a long way. Sure, eating a cookie, drinking a beer, or taking a nap helps take the edge off. Although what happens if you eat a whole pack of cookies or multiple packs, drink a twelve-pack or more, or sleep more than you are awake? Objectively, additional issues are added. The thing to remember is not to punish yourself; just be aware of the choices that you are making. Please remember that you are trying to help yourself feel better, plus this is uncharted territory.

The good news is that there are a few things you can do that have no limit. One of my favorites is to call a close, trusted friend. Ever notice that the more you share, the more your emotional weight lifts, and your friend is supportive. One of the more challenging ones, yet all the more important is to laugh. This does not entail laughing at what hurts; it is simply watching a movie, show, reading a story, or finding something else that makes you giggle. For a moment, you feel that genuine happiness. Please remember that these may not be easy at all times, but they will provide some relief.

My overall personal favorite is physical activity. Keep in mind your ability, physical tolerance, and nature of the trauma. Please do not endanger or harm yourself physically to attempt this. Physical activity can be anything from running, cleaning, lifting weights, dancing, gardening, yoga, and other activities. Physical activity provides a physical release for the energy. You get to take all your pent-up anger, anxiety, and focus it into your activity, which gives you a sense of peace afterward.

Day by day, these different activities provide you with support for your journey. None of them are bad, except that a few are best in moderation. Some are just like chocolate, or some that matter, desserts. Sure, it’s stressed backwards. Yet, a little dessert goes a long way to alleviating a large amount of stress. Desserts are also supported by physical activity and seeking support.
