I loved getting into Grandma's knitting as a child. All the pretty colors and how nearly they were wound. Oh, how I enjoyed unraveling the thread; it was so much fun. But, then I would get into trouble & Grandma would make me clean up my mess. I never understood why I struggled to clean up the yarn and would create so many knots. Eventually, Grandma would help me.
At many times, our clients are like that child who is cleaning up the unraveled yarn. Although, often with our clients, they did not choose to unravel the thread. Yet, cleaning it up and returning to health is still their chore.
At many times, we as clinicians are the Grandma, the caring figure who understands how to clean up the yarn, and health returns. And even though we also find knots, we sometimes have to untangle elsewhere. Our guidance helps our client heal, understand their mess, and grow a little wisdom.
